About Us

Owner’s Word

I started Peanut's Pet Care with one idea in mind, to ensure that as many animals are taken care of as possible. I've been working with, caring, and training animals of all sizes for over 20 years and hold multiple certifications in dog training, pet CPR, and pet first-aid. Whether it's dog training or pet care, we'll treat your pets as if they were our own!

John Hay, Owner & Founder

Peanut’s Pet Care is a premier service built around ensuring that your pets are taken care of at every event in their life. We handle both general pet care as well as various forms of dog training. Our pet care experience is long and vast, having taken care of a multitude of different types of animals. In 2024 Peanut’s Pet Care won Cobb Life Magazine’s “Best of Cobb” 2nd place award in pet training and 3rd place in pet sitting.

We provide dog walking throughout the year both on a weekly scheduled service as well as short term when your schedule changes. We guarantee that your dog is always protected while on walks and getting the exercise and attention they need. All bathroom movements as well as their behavior on the walk will be noted and sent back to the owner along with a GPS tracked trail of our time outside. Peanut’s Pet Care also offers drop-in care visits throughout the day to take care of your pets. This can range from one visit a day to go to the bathroom while you’re at work, all the way to multiple times a day to feed, water, crate, etc. your animals while you are away from home. All important information is reported back to the owner and we do our best to take the best photos of your pets while there so you can see how happy they are with us!

Pet care isn’t the only thing we excel at. We are also certified as dog trainers and can help with both obedience training and behavior modification. We offer a four week basic obedience class that will teach you and your dog the most commonly requested skills to make them the best companion you could ask for. We also offer customized obedience training to fit your exact needs. Behavior modification is another popular type of training that we offer and can help fix the unwanted behavior that your dog may be exhibiting. These training sessions can help with things such as excessive pulling on walks, barking, reactivity to humans or other dogs, house training, and much more. All of our behavior modification is completely molded to fit your needs and unlike other trainers we don’t make you spend hundreds of dollars on a behavior “test”, we will jump right into what you and your dog needs from our very first session. Currently all of our dog training sessions take place in your own home, but in the near future we hope to offer private training at a facility, group obedience and puppy classes, and sport agility training.

We are currently servicing the following areas: Cobb County, Southern Cherokee County, Northern Fulton County, Marietta, Kennesaw, Woodstock, Roswell, and Smyrna. Please reach out for more information on whether we are able to service your location as we expand throughout Georgia!

About John

John has worked with animals since a very young age in a multitude of capacities. From typical pets like cats and dogs, to showing and breeding livestock type animals, all the way to rehabilitating local wildlife. He has experience working with animals of all ages, lifestyles, and abilities including the disabled. John has spent the better part of his life dedicated to ensuring all animals are handled with the respect and care that they deserve.

John is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA®) and also holds certifications in obedience, companion, and behavior modification (including reactivity and aggression) from the award winning Atlanta Dog Trainer Academy, puppy training from Karen Pryor Academy, reactivity training (click to calm) from Emma Parsons, pet CPR from The American Red Cross, and pet first aid and CPR from internationally recognized PetTech. He’s won local, regional, and national titles in both showing and breeding across multiple breeds of animals. His experience has led him to where he is now and he hopes to be able to share his passion and knowledge with all of his clients.

John’s philosophy to training and pet care is simple, it’s all about the pet/owner bond. There’s much that can be accomplished once that bond has been created and it makes the training fall right into place.

A Connecticut native, John has called Georgia home since 2015 and currently resides in Marietta with his wife Taylor. Together they have three dogs; Charlie, Frodo, and Shiloh. Three cats; Nala, Thor, and Dizzy, a ball python, crested gecko, leopard gecko, scorpion, tarantula, and some fish. Peanut, the dog that started it all for John, will forever be in our hearts and minds (04/24/08 to 09/09/22).
